Spacebar counter
Press the spacebar as many times as you can before time runs out. Count your presses and see your speed per second.
- 1Pick a timer, from 5 to 60 seconds.
- 2Press Space as fast as you can. The timer starts with your first press, and holding the key down doesn’t count.
- 3When time is up, see your total presses, your speed per second and how well your pace held up.
Timer starts on your first press · nothing is saved
How scoring works
- Your score is the number of times you pressed Space before the timer ran out.
- Presses per second is that count divided by the length of the timer, so runs of different lengths can be compared.
- Each press counts once. Holding the key down, which makes it repeat on its own, adds nothing.
- Your fastest second is the most presses you landed inside any one-second stretch of the run.
A little perspective
Keyboards register presses differently, and phones count taps instead of key presses, so compare scores only on the same device and timer.
Results describe your performance on this task, with no invented percentiles or IQ equivalents.
How to press the spacebar faster
The spacebar is wide enough for more than one finger. Speed comes from rhythm and staying loose more than from force.
Alternate two thumbs
Tapping with both thumbs in turn, or with two fingers of one hand, splits the work and lets each finger recover between presses.
Stay close to the key
Keep your fingers just above the bar. Short movements are quicker than lifting high and striking hard.
Find a rhythm
An even rhythm usually beats frantic bursts, especially with the 30 and 60 second timers, where a fast start often fades.
Let the keyboard help
Keys that need a light press and travel a short distance are quicker to repeat. Laptop and mechanical keyboards can feel quite different.
Long runs tire your hands. Rest between attempts and stop if anything aches.
How the spacebar counter works
Pick a timer and press the spacebar as many times as you can. Counting starts with your first press and stops when time runs out. You get your total, your presses per second, and a chart of your pace through the run.
Each press counts once: holding the key down, which makes most keyboards repeat it, adds nothing. On a phone or tablet without a keyboard, tapping the box counts instead, but keep those results separate from keyboard runs.
Getting started
- If your presses aren’t counting, click inside the box once so the page has your keyboard’s attention.
- Try the 10 second timer first, then 30 and 60 seconds to see how long you can hold your pace.
- Use the same keyboard when you compare runs.

Common questions
Does holding down the spacebar count?
No. Holding the key makes it repeat automatically, and those repeats are ignored. Only separate presses count.
Can I use the spacebar counter on a phone?
Yes. Without a keyboard, tap the box instead. Taps and key presses feel different, so compare phone runs with other phone runs.
What is a good spacebar speed?
This site does not rank scores or assign percentiles. Technique matters a lot: alternating two thumbs is usually faster than pressing with one finger. Compare your own runs with the same timer and keyboard.
